We use Kaseya VSA to manage workstation/server endpoint software, updates, reboot cycles, and use it for remote connectivity - interactive desktop/files. We've also found great value is VSA's ability to update/manage/deploy applications very quickly and seamlessly using pre-defined application lists. However, one of the best features is the ability to execute remote commands - powershell or Windows CMD, quietly, remotely. This is a very powerful feature to use, especially when troubleshooting.
  • Remote client connections
  • Provide a single pane of glass for all systems' update statuses, rollouts, and approvals
  • Remote command line options
  • The interface can be a little sluggish at times
  • There is no option that I've seen to connect to an IdP
  • We've seen occasional double entries of agents, there doesn't appear to be any mechanism to prevent this.
Kaseya VSA has allowed us to manage all of our workstations anywhere they are, regardless of connection. Support has been able to pivot from on-prem to remote without missing a beat during the pandemic. The ability to reach remote users' systems via desktop sharing, file explorer & remote command lines using powershell have been instrumental for our team to be able to react to clients' needs when they need it most.

We have predominately used Kaseya to serve the purpose of mass software deployment, patching, and retrieving information on workstations and endpoints. We have used this across the spectrum company-wide for all of our locations and devices. It has allowed us much more flexibility and efficiency in our interactions with our endpoints and users.
  • Allow for mass deployment of software
  • Allow for easier third party software patching
  • Remote sessions onto client machines
  • Gathering an aggregate of computer information from endpoints
  • Security, or lack thereof from cyber attacks
  • Many features should come standard but require purchasing add-on modules
  • Better network monitoring tools built into base platform
In a business where you are deploying software to many endpoints this would be a good solution to have. Also if you are in the market for a platform that does allow for growth and additional tools that may be beneficial through purchasing modules. Granular control of endpoints and data from those endpoints is easy to gather through this platform. I do not think this solution is optimal for a smaller business.

We currently use Kaseya VSA throughout our company to manage all of our systems. Kaseya VSA gives us the ability to control when Windows updates are applied. The benefit is that end users are not affected by updates during normal working hours. Kaseya VSA allows us to fully manage all aspects of our end-users systems.
  • Windows updates management.
  • Selectively install updates.
  • Third party patching.
  • Policy management.
  • Remote control.
  • VSA updates can be problematic.
Kaseya VSA is a great solution for small to large organizations. The software allows you to completely manage your Windows systems. While there is support for Mac and Linux the support pales in comparison to the Windows support.

VSA is our primary monitoring and remote access system. It allows us to manage servers and workstations as well as remotely connect. This is used by myself and my service team daily. It addresses the obvious problem as an MSP of managing devices and assisting end users. VSA also assist with creating reports that are used to review hardware with clients.
  • Advanced scripting system, provides a great engine for building and deploying scripts to multiple computers and/or servers.
  • Remote control features, utilize clipboard as well as copying files and other settings.
  • Windows and third-party patching, push software updates as well as Windows Updates to servers and workstations.
  • Remote control is very slow. Both initiating connections and utilizing remote access is a bit slower than expected, and slower than competitors.
  • Interface is a little clunky. It's sometimes hard to navigate and difficult to pickup for new users.
  • Overall not very intuitive. Strange decisions for the backend code. In order to remotely connect once locating your agent, you must click on a small, unlabeled button on the far left. Hovering over the button is also how you review data, none of this is easy to pickup.
It is still one of the industry's largest RMM tools. It still boasts all of the necessary features to complete in today's world. Any MSP can perform their services with the product and be happy with it. Once learning the clunky interface and not-so-intuitive design, the software is extremely effective. Would still recommend the software as an optional vendor to MSPs.

We use Kaseya to automate patch management, audit equipment, and finish systems configs during the build process on all managed systems.
  • Applies specific settings to machines that match certain criteria
  • Remotely run scripted procedures against monitored events in system event logs
  • Maintains and audit and change records of all devices
  • Manages machines across multiple active directory domains
  • Policy application & push. Currently all policies claim to not be current on 1000's of machines, when in fact they are. Re-running policy sync's across all devices daily is a huge tax on the system. Although this is strictly a cosmetic issue, because the policies are in fact correct & current, the dashboard lacks the ability to keep its' records straight. This has been a problem since version 6.
  • Live connect. In earlier versions I could customize web links for end users, this feature was removed in 9.0, and has been raised to dev on multiple occasions. Under the current version only a max of 5 links appear, and they are customization by the end user.
  • Patch policies need to include a simpler way to exclude patches. Like with WSUS its much simpler to have a policy that denies specific patches rather than creating a policy to allow everything with exceptions. When policies are changed every month with new patch cycles this is hard to manage.
  • The Reporting feature lacks an intuitive interface. Its easier to write a query and run it on the back end in Microsoft reporting than use the built-in reporting feature.
  • Procedure log interface needs to be created. When writing procedures and then testing them, I have to leave the procedure section and browse logs under audit, then return to procedures.
  • Procedures that fail need to have additional logging, there is a lot of guess work when trying to understand why a procedure failed, this could be simplified by passing the powershell or dos failures directly into kaseya, instead of saying this line item failed.
  • Procedures that fail under IF then statements, it would be better to state which line item failed when using if then statements instead of saying a script failed at the if then statement and not a line within the if then statement.
Since the Kaseya VSA module is very specific in what it covers, this module is well suited for patch management, script automation, third-party updates, and device state statuses. I honestly cannot think of reasons for why it would not be appropriate. It excels at automating scheduled procedures (a lot better than SCCM).

Where Kaseya runs short is in their product support. They lack the understanding of their product, I end up solving most of my problems even after opening tickets. They also like to close tickets that are still in progress, as well as open multiple tickets for the same issue.

Our IT department uses Kaseya VSA to support users throughout our company in our nearly 20 locations across the country. We can do more with Kaseya VSA than if we were physically seated at the machine and can complete nearly any operation silently without disturbing the users or disrupting productivity.
  • Remote access is fast and stable when needed to share a users session on a workstation. This allows us to directly see problems/errors, and directly witness what the user is trying to do when encountering problems. This is much more effective than relying on a users description of a technical issue.
  • Endpoint support is available without the user ever knowing you're working on their machine. Whether you're transferring files or applying registry edits, they keep working while you work.
  • Kaseya is always adding additional modules and interfaces with both internal and third party applications such as Veeam. Getting so much functionality in a single window makes our complex environment more simple to manage.
  • The only area I can see where a lot of room for improvement can be made is in scripting of Agent procedures. Making operations more modular and able to be assembled by technicians who might not be strong in a scripting environment would be helpful. In the mean time, Kaseya has an entire site and a whole team of developers who write Agent procedures for common tasks and make them available for free to all Kaseya VSA customers.
Kaseya is a powerful for multiplier. If you're trying to support a large number of endpoints and a substantial number of users with a small IT team, Kaseya is the way to go. Kaseya makes one technician able to do what would otherwise take several people and is well worth the investment.
